Gaiters

Gaiters are worn over the shoe to protect the lower part of the leg from the elements. Dry feet are the key to keeping warm whatever you're doing, whether tromping through the East Anglian fens, skiing down a Swiss mountain piste or thundering along a rain-soaked autobahn on a Harley!

Check out our leg gaiters here at Gear-Zone, from Extremities Entagaiters or their GTX XCR Nova Gore-Tex gaiters, to the renowned Outdoor Research Crocodile Gaiters and their Verglas gaiters for men and women. Gaiters are a verstile piece of kit which every outdoor enthusiast should own.

Gaiters - Overview

Gaiters are one of those bits of kit which once you have used them for the first time they become indispensible.  They have multiple purposes which is to keep the bottom of your trousers dry, keep the worst of the mud and wet off of your boots, stop scree and getting into your walking boots and if you are wearing shorts they protect your lower legs from nettles, bites and thorns.

When you are choosing gaiters consider the breathability of the fabric which is being used.  Goretex or Event will be the most breathable and also consider durability.  Tough fabrics such as Cordura or high denier nylons will mean your gaiters will last a long time and be more resilient to scuffing from your hiking boots.  This is even more important if you are wearing them with crampons.

Gaiters for hiking are also available in short, ankle length for summer use and a more standard length which is most suitable for all year round.
