The DMM Spectre is a special carabiner.
It was the first of the new generation of I-Beam biners, and has been designed to be the work-horse of its age.
It's a good size, a massive 10kN gate open strength, and weighs only 35 grams - and of course you get all the usual DMM refinements.
This is the biner of choice for many. Some manufactures make their biners as small as possible just to save weight, but DMM wanted to retain the usability of the biner, especially when wearing gloves for winter work.
By adding a strong, lightweight dyneema sling to the package, a formidable multi-purpose, year round quickdraw was born.
DMM Spectre Quickdraw Set
DMM were the first to develop the idea of I-Beam biners, and it is this technology together with the company's experience in forging 7000 series alloys, which provides the ideal balance between strength, weight and versatility.
A shockingly-strong 10kN open gate strength means that however much abuse this biner takes, it will be up to whatever task you throw at it.
The wire gate keeps weight to a minimum, whilst providing an easy clip with minimum chance of it freezing or gunging up.
The customised gate is curved to give a constant tension for ease of clipping and increased long-term safety, whilst the tip of the wire is also bent so that it pulls into the nose when under tension to minimise the chance of gate open loading. The nose is shrouded to minimise the chance of the gate being opened accidentally.
The draws come on colour coded 11mm dyneema in 12cm and 18cm lengths, and all have a rubber tadpole on the rope end to keep the biner orientated correctly.
The Spectre is a fantastic all-round quickdraw and is a brilliant choice whether it is being used for sport, traditional or alpine climbing.
