The Grivel Matrix Light is a featherweight ice axe ideal for climbers who seek easy handling in a simple tool, but which retains all the features and strength for which Grivel axes are renowned.
Weighing in at approximately 515 grams there's few lighter axes with a similar profile, and with a changeable reverse positive head with shovel, the Matrix Light makes a great tool for alpinists and mixed climbing. The angle in the shaft is deliberately high to maximise the distance between shaft and anchor points, with the straighter lower section allowing for easy penetration in even hard snow.
The Matrix Light comes with the pictured leash, however it also allows for a lot of customisation depending on your preference; the Horn, Trigger, Easy Slider and Grivel's new Tech Leash can all be fitted to tailor the axe to you.
Ideal for ice falls and goulottes, modern mixed, dry tooling and competition.
Please note that all accessories are sold separately.
Grivel: Forging a Place in History
From a blacksmith’s forge at the foot of the highest mountain in the Alps, Grivel have become world leaders in the manufacture of crampons and ice axes.
The oldest company in existence making equipment for Alpinism and climbing, Grivel began forging agricultural tools in a small, metal-working factory in Courmayeur, near Mount Blanc, in 1810. Nearly 100 years later Henry Grivel commercialised the first crampon prototype, using re-forged railway ties which provided the best-quality steel around.
Today, their Cramp-o-Matic, Air Tech and New Classic crampons, along with Munro, Brenva and Matrix ice axes, are used by climbers and Alpinists everywhere, helping to forge their reputation as masters of their mountain craft.
