Ergonomic handled ascender
The benchmark for handled ascenders has been refined to provide greater comfort; efficiency, and ease of use.
The ergonomically shaped grip on this Petzl Ascender is over molded with rubber for greater friction and the broader surface provides greater comfort while pulling on the ascender.
The grip is wider at the bottom providing better comfort for your hand during use.
The index finger indent has also been increased offering greater efficiency when pulling on the ascender.
The trigger to open/close the cam is now recessed inside the frame to avoid accidentally opening the cam while in use.
The cam has been redesigned to minimize friction when sliding the ascender along the rope while the angled teeth provide secure grip in the worst conditions (wet, icy, or on muddy ropes).
The geometry of the single piece aluminum frame ensures optimal handle orientation when the device is loaded and will maintain solid, comfortable performance even after thousands of meters of jugging.

Petzl: How It All Began
Fernand Petzl made the first 1,000 metre cave descent in France in 1950, laying the foundations for vertical safety technology of the future.
Twenty years earlier he had started working with fellow speleologist Pierre Chevalier, making new advances into the basic thinking behind their shared sport.
Fast forward to 1975, and the Petzl corporation was born at the base of the Dent de Crolles – Crolles’ Teeth – near Grenoble, heralding an era of innovation and design which brought us the Grigri belay device, Tikka and Tikkina head torches, and a range of safety helmets and harnesses used by cavers and climbers all over the world.
Renowned throughout the industry for their ‘work-at-height’ products and highly-technical rescue equipment, Petzl have expanded their manufacturing line to include specialist ice climbing technology, and are committed to raising social, environmental and ecological awareness - alongside research into risk prevention - of all mountaineering sports.
