Microfleece Overview
Microfleece is an essential part of your layering system as the insulating mid layer. It is normally a lightweight fleece which is both warm and breathable. The most well known fabric is Polartec. The standard weight of mens microfleece from Polartec is Micro 100 which is about 100grams per square metre. This fabric is ideal as a mid layer or a lightweight sweater for hiking, back packing or biking. Another mid layer fabric is Polartec Powerstretch. This is a nylon on polyester fabric with a four way stretch. It is extremely warm, normally tigher fitting than standard Polartec Micro and is more abrasion resistant. It has a soft inner layer which is excellent at wicking sweat and moisture. Powerstretch is also used in gloves and tights.
Berghaus use their own technogly in most of their micro fleece and this is called AT-micro fleece. AT-micro is a polyester fleece which is lightweight and is very comfortable next to the skin. AT micro has a non-piling face to ensure that it stays looking good and performing well after repeated washing.
It is easy to clean fleece fabrics in the washing machine. It is suggested that they are washed inside out to prevent the fabrics pilling and if the garment has a DWR repellent it is best to use Nikwax Tech Wash to maintain the repellent.
