Silva’s origins go back 80 years, to the early days of orienteering as a competitive sport.

Three Swedish orienteer champions invented the first liquid-filled compass, creating Silva’s forerunner Bröderna Kjellström and Instrumentverken in the process.

Using Scandinavia’s widely different seasons and landscapes as their testing ground, the company’s proud heritage continues with the manufacturing of compasses, headlamps, pedometers, binoculars and precision instruments for geologists and the military.

Responsible for launching the world’s first handheld GPS with integrated digital compass 20 years ago, Silva are three-time winners of the Outdoor Industry Award in as many years, for their Trail Runner headlamp in 2009, the Ninox headlamp in 2010, and the Tyto Visibility lamp in 2011.
