It’s not just their prototypes that undergo the SealSkinz test.

Every single item that comes off the production line bearing the SealSkinz name is subjected to the most rigorous screening to guarantee its waterproof capabilities before being allowed to leave the factory.

Exposed to high water pressure seven times higher than the level required to meet European standards, SealSkinz hats, gloves and socks use a hydrophilic – water loving – membrane which makes it impossible for any water to get through.

This is as waterproof as it gets – and yet still allows vapour to pass through from the interior to expel moisture, banishing unpleasant sweat to keep you dry and comfortable from the inside out.

Through such intensive factory testing, any product shown to be taking even a minimal amount of water on board is rejected, meaning that every single SealSkinz item to leave the production line is guaranteed 100% waterproof.

To pass the test, the equivalent of a column of water 700 centimetres high must be repelled – which computes to withstanding 10 psi of hydrostatic head pressure.

SealSkinz’ secret to such waterproof breathability is in exploiting the difference in humidity and temperature between the atmospheres on either side of the waterproof membrane.

When the internal climate next to the skin is hot and humid, and the external climate is much drier and cooler, SealSkinz technology drives water vapour out from the interior, ensuring you remain dry and perspiration-free on the inside.
