As far back as the last pre-war Olympics in 1936 - a decade before two German brothers split up their original Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik footwear company to form the rival Puma and Adidas brands - four-time gold medallist Jessie Owens was sporting running spikes which were the forerunners of today's legendary track running shoe.
Today, Puma's success story has moved on to incorporate almost every type of sports clothing and equipment imaginable.
