Outdoor Research

Outdoor Research began in the early 1980s, and today they remain focussed on practical, functional solutions to the problems faced by outdoor enthusiasts in the backcountry.
Their gaiters - like the world-renowned Crocodile - are probably the most famous of their creations, used by climbers, hikers and motorcyclists everywhere.
The company motto – ‘Designed By Adventure’ – is their inspiration and their passion for developing the very best gear possible, helping outdoor types fulfil their potential and realise their dreams along the way.
Outdoor Research, based in Seattle, Washington, has been catering for outdoor types for over 25 years.
Their unique Lab Rat programme gives end users the chance to report back on how their piece of kit or clothing has performed – all feedback goes directly to the firm’s research and development team and has been used in the revision of existing products and even helped create entire new lines.
By paying careful attention to the needs of their customers, Outdoor Research learn about the sports and pursuits they enjoy, and what they most require to participate in their chosen disciplines to the full extent of their capabilities.
The company motto – ‘Designed By Adventure’ – is their inspiration and their passion for developing the very best gear possible, helping outdoor enthusiasts fulfil their potential and realise their dreams along the way.
Outdoor Research is the legacy of Ron Gregg, physicist, mountaineer and founder of the company who was killed in an avalanche in 2003 while testing new ski gear in the backcountry in British Columbia, Canada.
