Mitre at Gear Zone

Mitre logo at Gear ZoneMitre were already stitching footballs when the first competition football league was formed in 1888. In fact Mitre can trace its history back to 1817, making it one of the oldest sports equipment suppliers around.

Thanks to nearly 200 years of experience, Mitre are now widely recognised as probably the foremost experts on football construction. Their latest major innovation has led to the biggest clubs playing with branded Mitre footballs bearing their own individual team colours and crests.

Mitre are the oldest manufacturers of footballs in the world, and have been making history for close on 200 years.

From humble beginnings in a leather tannery in Huddersfield in 1817, Mitre have grown from a one-man business to become a global company producing football, cricket balls, rugby balls and sports apparel favoured by clubs and individuals everywhere.

Their list of ‘firsts’ in the sporting world is almost endless – first choice of the English F.A. for over 40 years, official suppliers at the first Rugby World Cup, official suppliers to the newly-formed Premier League, manufacturer of the first synthetic English league ball…and responsible for the first – and only – time an official ball has been used by the Football League, Football Association, Scottish F.A. and all  home UK cup, league and international fixtures.
