Founder of the firm Michael Odqvist came across the easiest method of fire-lighting in the 1990s, when he discovered the simplicity of Maya sticks – and built an entire company on the strength of his new-found knowledge.

Now, after nearly 20 years, Light My Fire are as famous throughout the outdoor world for their spork camping cutlery as for their genius with fire-starting…with a range of lightweight, colourful spoon-cum-fork utensils that have become as sought after in well-equipped kitchens everywhere as around the campfire.

Light My Fire’s original Maya sticks are the easiest and most efficient way of starting a campfire in any weather.

Made from the pino de Ocote, a fatwood pine tree cultivated in Guatemala and Mexico, they have an extremely high resin content which makes them easy to light, resistant to damp and slow to burn with maximum heat output – and no harmful chemicals which can give off dangerous, noxious fumes.

The company’s fair trade production in Guatemala has enabled 400 descendents of native Maya Indians to work within the industry, allowing them to earn a living and start educating their children at local schools.
