Cycling holidays are great fun. They're healthy, environmentally friendly and above all else a great way to see some of the world's most spectacular places, as shown by these fourroutes.Christchurch to Queenstown (New Zealand)

When it comes to outdoor adventure there's nowhere better than New Zealand. The combination of spectacular scenery and a sparsely distributed population means that the country is the perfect place to embark on a two-wheeled journey of discovery.</p> <p>There are a number of different routes that take in Christchurch, Queenstown and the spectacular scenery that's in-between. You can choose a circular route or opt for a simple point to point.

If you're a bit of an adrenaline junkie you must stop off at Queenstown on your cycling trip. It's one of the best places for adventure tourism in the world where you can have a go at everything from canyon swinging to white water rafting.

Schagen to Amsterdam (The Netherlands)

If cycling holidays are new to you but you still want to a spectacular ride then Holland is the perfect place for you. It's often said that the country has more bikes than people, and it's a popular way to travel for a reason.</p> <p>There are over one hundred scenic routes to choose from that take in sights like Schagen's beautiful tulip fields and the market town of Edam, a must see for any cheese fan. And the whole of the country is pretty flat so any cycling trip round the Netherlands is going to be relaxing.

Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam)

On this 750 mile journey between the two largest cities in Vietnam you'll see scenery that's spectacularly varied. Much of the route runs along the coast and takes in the country's spectacular cliffs and gorgeous sandy beaches.

Obviously you don't have to tackle the full 750 mile route, but even a shorter trip may be too challenging for a beginner. Cyclists will meet a whole host of obstacles along the way, including the busy city traffic and the coastline's uneven road surfaces.

Land's End to John O'Groats (Great Britain)

If you've always wanted to pedal the entire length of a country Britain is a great place to start. And the iconic journey from John O'Groats to Land's End takes in both Scotland and England, so you get two for the price of one!

There are a number of different available routes and deciding which path to take is part of the fun. If you want to see as much spectacular scenery as possible be prepared to book a fair few days off work, as the journey can be well over 900 miles long. It should take around 2 weeks to complete the trip.

You can of course start at either end but I guess travelling from Scotland to Cornwall must feel like it's downhill all the way...
