Why Ibiza Makes A Fantastic Mediterranean Vacation

Sunset on IbizaTips for travelling to Ibiza, a top Mediterranean beach destination

Ibiza has rapidly become one of the hottest tourist destinations in the Mediterranean.

Visitors to Europe can easily plan a day or overnight trip to this remote, beautiful island. Ibiza is known for its excellent nightlife, fine restaurants, and picturesque beaches.

Because of its location off the coast of Spain, access to Ibiza will involve jumping aboard an airliner or boarding a tourist ship.  The climate is mild all year long, with plenty of sunshine in the summer and pleasant temperatures into November.

Here is just a taste of what visitors will enjoy.

Shopping and Staying in Ibiza Town

Along the Mediterranean beachfront are numerous small shops and gift booths. The nearby hotels and nightclubs also have a generous supply of gift items. Hand-made soaps are a popular souvenir in Ibiza Town and are available from many of the street-side merchants.

During the many festivals that take place on the island, merchants will set up temporary storefronts on the wharfs. This is a delightful way to spend the afternoon, and the variety of locally-made trinkets is nearly endless.

Visitors will find lodgings that suit any budget, from the 5-star Ibiza Grand Hotel to the more modestly priced establishments found throughout Ibiza Town, San Antonio, and along the beachfronts.

There are also many hostels on the island.  Most of these can be booked far in advance as part of a flight itinerary.

The Famous Nightlife Scene

Ibiza has become famous for its exciting brand of electric music and techno variant.

The island is a big draw for the up-and-coming bands from the mainland, and visitors will find no end to the nightclub entertainment.  Some of the venues are quite large and can accommodate as many as 500 guests at once.

Nearly every nightclub has hourly drink specials, and the musical atmosphere at these clubs also attracts some of the most well-known DJs from the continent.

Live radio broadcasts are part of the residency of the DJ at any particular nightclub on summer and fall evenings.  Visitors will find that entry fees to these clubs and the price of drinks to be the most expensive part of their stay on the island.

Getting Married?

Much like Las Vegas in America, Ibiza has become a hotspot for marriages.

There are a number of chapels and churches that advertise weddings for those staying for a day or night on the island.  Most of the European travel agencies can assist couples that wish to tie the knot on this Mediterranean island.

Honeymooners will also enjoy the energetic nightlife of Ibiza Town and San Antonio, and the many flights available from Barcelona, Madrid, and other European cities makes it easy for couples to plan a wedding at this non-traditional getaway hotspot.

Arranging a Trip to IbizaIbiza by day

Ibiza can be reached via scheduled airline flights from Dublin, Birmingham and London in the United Kingdom, from Amsterdam, Barcelona, Copenhagen and Madrid in Western Europe, and from Rome and Milan, Italy.

There are also tourist ships that call on Ibiza, and scheduled passenger boat services from several mainland ports in Spain include stops in Ibiza Town and San Antonio.

Once on the island, visitors can easily rent a car from one of several agencies at the airport or at major hotels and nightclubs. Taxi service is lightly regulated, and visitors will want to save money by using the licensed services offered at the airport.

Most of the nightclubs in Ibiza Town and San Antonio are within walking distance of hotels, shopping, and the waterfront, making motorised transport unnecessary unless exploration of the outlying areas is on the agenda.

English and Spanish are spoken by most of the natives as well as by employees at the hotels and nightclubs.  The standard unit of currency in Ibiza is the Euro.
